Commentary by Roger Cohen: Iran, Israel, USA

Roger Cohen
( www.iht.com / Passagen ) has a very interesting season and very sensible publishing articles about the U.S. relationship with Iran, on the one hand, and Israel, on the other. Thus, today's article in Herald Tribune, March 23 , the new policy indicates that Iranian President Obama will
rising tensions with Israel. Cohen understands that the Iranian ayatollahs are anything but mad, they are calculating, and these estimates will lead to take Obama seriously. I can not dwell on any comment now, I just want to quote the last sentence of your article today (From Tehran to Tel Aviv): "America's Israel-can-do-no-wrong-policy've Been Disastrous, not least for Israel's long-term security."

We and Obama: Kosovo, mon amour

We, the English have, such as artichokes, hard and leathery exterior, but, instead, exhibit a secret tender heart. So, all this rigmarole of Kosovo, our government has shown the new Obama administration how stiffness and tenderness combined transforming almost any instance of international politics insignificant it may seem, in unpredictable and fickle people. We are all heart. We decided to withdraw from Kosovo, a wise decision, but we have to "heart heart "bypassing foreign ministries, embassies and European alliances, not to mention our own Defense Ministry, who have left in the wrong place: malavisamos of our intentions at all. But we will apologize directly to President Obama. love Aznar both Obama and Bush loved. From heart to heart. As he says, wisely, Jose Maria Ridao in his article "Diplomacy without a job" (El País, Monday March 23, 2009): "The mission in which Spain participates in Kosovo is vested in the NATO, not the United States. It is, therefore, illogical that while the announcement of the withdrawal was announced one day to the secretary general of the Alliance, the correct address to the government in Washington the next day (...) This deference to the United States can not be interpreted, beyond our borders, rather than as evidence of the continuity of transatlantic politics of reverence (... ) and not only in the Kosovo issue but of Afghanistan. "In his article, censorship Ridao that aside the tenderness of our hearts and fascination for the U.S. presidency, is a cunning villain in this sanchopancesca and tenderness: this trend bilateralism with the United States is dictated, as Aznar, "once again for electoral reasons and image, not as a result of a rigorous assessment of what is good for the country." Ridao's thesis is that the swings in a matter of such importance as the presence of English troops abroad "reveals that no one knows who runs the English diplomacy, nor is it possible to identify years anything resembling a strategy."

Appeal For Job Reinstatement Letter

I have limited time this afternoon, but I would write a text even reporting from Washington Antonio Cano (El País, Sunday March 15, 2009). The report is titled, "Obama was born the alliance-Lula" and is subtitled: Presidents driving a new model of relations in the Americas. Antonio Cano says the following: "Obama began confessing that has long been a big fan of Lula. The Brazilian president returned the compliment saying that since Obama became president pray more for him than for himself" (italics mine) because has never known any other case of a president who, in just 50 days, has had to face so many huge difficulties. Do not want to be in his position, Lula acknowledged. Let us pause a moment in this statement of Lula Da Silva: pray more for Obama than for himself. I have been interested in this sentence two aspects: 1) Lula pray. And 2) that Lula read more for Obama than for himself. I have to admit that this matter of prayer seemed to me very seriously. I also pray. Although intermittently. And I pray more for others than for myself. I can just pray for myself. I paste the intention of praying to refer to myself, I change the sentence becomes dilated and breathing when I think and pray for any person to whom or for whom I am deeply concerned. For many years, in fact, that only I pray (my way) by others. Rarely and only very dry, piecemeal, by myself. Explain this, I believe, within the context of this blog, perfectly adequate, I do not think there is a personal God who hears my prayer. I do not believe in a providential God or personal, a bit for the same reason I do not believe in the Resurrection. At best, I admit that there is a world "noumenal" transempirical, which can be lied to or alluded to in number by serious and consistent religious experiences. This world is subjective and can not be subject to any direct or consequential verification and can not be no common object of intersubjective consciousness. The world of the divine must be bracketed and treated in suspension, suspended in promoting imaginative and prayerful awareness disbelief (this is the great paradox). So the self-referential personal effect of speech is nihilizado, strikeout, in my case. In contrast, when I'm worried about someone, for their health or their happiness, I can make prayer (and even prayer request) but I do not think that is going to be any kind of response. Either directly or indirectly. This prayer for someone else, I opened a field however respiratory and clean, clear and warm, where I can think openness of intent, selfishness, narcissism, on the other person as part of a community of creatures unknown or known whose welfare or for whose success I pray. Clearly, as Lula Da Silva, I have had a Christian education, and although I'm radically outside any institutional religious circuit, I still have an instinct to pray for someone that worries me or who I admire or who I want. I am very grateful to Antonio Cano for having stated in his report the details of the conversation between Lula and Obama.

Lula and Obama Obama and "horizontal democracy" misunderstands

tell me that the students of the Faculty of Political Science at the Complutense beating drums come in the classroom (and even tear a door) to persuade their partners to participate in a strike against the plan of Bologna. I'm not going to discuss that plan, but I go to discuss the opportunity and intelligence of these strikes university. Not appear "university" use coercion to halt strike classes and take students to the assemblies. These days it is producing the sterile and emotional duress. It seems that the strike would be appropriate for a university to increase the number of hours of applied study and attention in class. Disrupt classes at this stage of course, on behalf of the so-called "horizontal democracy", it seems a grave error of perspective. It seems that the striking workers as lazy mobilize students, most left, most young people in the worst sense of the word. President Barack Obama insists these days in an American educational reform to be more competitive, and says: "We must reward 'excellence'." Is promoting a system of pay for teachers based on merit. "It is time that we are responsible", "The time has come to expect more of our students." But at the same time, state and local schools should be able to "pull the ill-class teachers." He added: "I reject a system that rewards failure and protects a person from their consequences. The stakes are too high for educational beating about nonsense." The idea of a horizontal democracy and egalitarianism, compared to the praise of excellence and intelligent effort is one of the worst perversions of the idea of college. And I really want to add another text of Obama: "What interests me is not whether an idea is liberal or conservative, but know if it works effectively. "democracy of excellence against strikes that promote choice, mansurrona in the background, intelligence lazy students.

Vatican

Although Christianity archaic Benedict XVI and his advisers have I remedy and I have nothing to say in favor of that curled and dogmatic Catholicism, has irritated me the virulent reaction against Obama authorized the funding of stem cell research. The idea that the cell is already a human person is the sign of a whole creationist view of the world I can not start an argument here but it seems to me harmful and negative. I want to put at least my opposition to Vatican on the subject. Far from being an attack on life, Obama told us yesterday that damaged many lives will be rehabilitated through the use of stem cells.

Obama Obama's faith I

I'll try to summarize here the chapter on "Faith" Obama's book entitled "The audacity of hope." Surely not have time to do this afternoon but I want to at least highlight the nimble prose narrative of the president. At the start of his chapter, Obama gives an overview of the state of religious faith, not just the Christian but this in particular in the USA today. I was very interested in his religious position. I translate freely: "Every day thousands of Americans go about their daily tasks -Take the kids to school, driving to the office, go to business meetings, shopping, trying to meet their diets, and come to realize that something is missing. [...] Need a sense of purpose, a narrative arc to their lives, something that chronic loneliness free or lift them above the incessant and exhausting work of daily life. They need assurance that someone Out There, out there cares about them and listens. Assurance that your destination is not only travel a long road to nowhere. "As it happens, I personally believe that we traveled a long road to nowhere, but I am very interested to hear about people special about religious experience. Especially in a case like this of Obama in which questions never disappear. Tells us not educated in a religious home and his mother, who bowed to religious broadly disliked organized religion which often shows a stubbornness of mind under the guise of compassion and cruelty and oppression lies in the aspect sense of justice. He says his mother had a continuing sense of wonder, a reverence for life and beautiful nature that could be described adequately transient as devout. His mother saw mysteries everywhere and rejoiced in the acute strangeness of life. This case is interesting and want to stop here as a first approach to this issue that is very important.
After this reference to his mother Obama introduces us directly in the black communities of believers where "the lines between sinner and saved were more fluid: the sins of those who came to the church were not very different from the sins those who did not come, so we could talk about all of them with a sense of humor and conviction. " The most important sentence of this first time is when Obama joined the Trinity United Church of Christ and was baptized: "It Came about as a choice and Not an epiphany." It was a choice and not a revelation. I want to emphasize here that in the face Magic of faith and dogmatic Bush, Obama's faith is like that I can consider myself yet I have. A faith dramatically unsafe facing the mystery and anything with all matters in raw, and is preparing to live with the lack of responses, with the silence of God.

Notes in preparation for the hosting the First Dog

seems that Obama has already decided that the dog will be a Portuguese water dog (the photo accompanying this entry is surely the Obama Dog). As Santander born in Puerto Chico I have to strongly protest this characterization "Portuguese" of Santander Spaniel lifetime. The Puerto Chico fishermen on their partners always wore a poodle or wool which were indeed splendid swimmers and divers. My friend Coqui Perez Tordesillas had a few years ago the idea of registering at the Kennel Club in London to Santander Spaniel as a breed native. I felt as a twinge of righteous indignation to see that Obama consider this dog so mountainous as the northern, Portuguese and non-Spaniard. This is that of b or in humor and praise of the excellent selection of dog. The Spaniel is a happy dog and sports. And very smart. But I really like the water, so the president will have to be more of a dip with her dog and her daughters on their days off!
